Finally, just in time to tie on those Holiday gifts! As the week goes on, ramps will be safer...best to launch later in the morning anyway as things warm a bit. NBC Ch. 4 meteorologist "Weather Kim" Martucci says, "After a frigid start to the week with single digit wind chills, we'll aim for 50s for the high and 40s for the low come the end of the week and into the New Year.
If you make it out, fish slowly as water will be around 33 to start the week, and a bit warmer by the weekend. Days are getting longer and the sun will really warm up shallow water faster! Look for areas warmed by the sun, like riprapand discharge plants like Blue Plains and Four Mile Run.
Look for fish to be on drops in other areas down to 10 feet deep or deeper. Later in the week, low tide will be midday. The lower water will bring warmed water from Blue Plains to the Spoils Cove just above the Wilson Bridge on the Maryland side. Slow roll spinnerbaits over and down the drops into 8-10 feet of water along with Carolina rigs. Suspending Lucky Craft Pointer 78s when the water is clear will work in this location and in the clear water at Blue Plains and Four Mile Run.
For deeper drops, its prime time for Silver Buddy lures. Use ounce size in silver. Tie to 14-pound test. Try a 66 rod with a soft tip in the first third. Work baits slowlyshort burpsabout 4 inches off the bottom. Over-working this bait will not work! Short lift and semi-tight line drop. Follow up with Manns Stingray grubs, Mizmo tubes and other soft plastics with open jig hooks or drop shot with light-wire hooks.
