TAMPA, Fla. -- News and notes as the Capitals prepare for tonight's 7:30 puck drop in Tampa against the Lightning, who trail the Caps by nine points in the Eastern Confernece standings but won four straight before the NHL All-Star break:
One year later: Caps goalie Tomas Vokoun recorded his 20th win of the season on Jan. 24 vs. Boston and is now just two wins shy of tying his total from last season. Vokoun is one of just two goaltenders (Roberto Luongo) to have won 20 or more games each season since 2002-03 (nine seasons). Vokoun is 6-0-1 in his last seven games against Tampa Bay with a 2.34 goals-against average and a .929 save percentage.
Mat trick: Mathieu Perreault recorded his first career hat trick in a 5-3 win over Boston on Jan. 24. He now has six points (four goals, two assists) in his last four games. Troy Brouwer tallied his first career hat trick in a 4-3 win over Tampa Bay on Jan. 13. It was the Caps third hat trick against Tampa Bay in their last eight matchups (Alex Semin twice).
Ahead of the game: Marcus Johansson added an assist on Jan. 24 against Boston and has set a career high with 28 points (10 goals, 18 assists) this season. Johansson has already set a career high in assists and game-winning goals (three) this season and has 10 points (four goals, six assists) in his last 12 games. He has recorded one goal and two assists in two games against the Lightning this season.
Dominating: The Caps are 21-3-1 against the Lightning in their last 25 contests (2-0-0 this season).
Semin in a bottle: Alex Semin has 40 points (22 goals, 18 assists) in 35 career games against the Lightning. He has 12 multi-point games and has three hat tricks against Tampa Bay in his career. Semin has recorded 16 points in his last 16 games (seven goals, nine assists) overall.
