In the locker room Monday morning, Redskins punter Sav Rocca had a walking boot on left foot, a day after being run into by Garrett McIntyre.By Friday, Rocca was out of the boot, fully practicing and expecting to play Sunday against New England. Its improved a lot, Rocca said. I think I should be OK. The guys Im getting treatment from in our training room are doing a really good job.Rocca did not practice Wednesday and was limited Thursday. But he was limited as probable on the Redskins injury report submitted to the league office.Hes very tough-minded, coach Mike Shanahan said. For him to go back in like he did with that type of injury, I was guessing he would be ready to go.
Rocca is used to contact after playing 257 games in the Australian Rules Football League before coming to the United States. But he said the hit he took was pretty much the biggest hes taken in 75 NFL games. As I was coming down, I was unprotected, too, so I was unable to brace myself and it was directly after the punt, Rocca said. But we all make mistakes.Rocca enters the weekend ranked sixth in net average (40.5 yards), tied for first in punts inside the 20-yard line (25) and second in touchbacks (one).Contact OHalloran at firstname.lastname@example.org
