Veteran Redskins defensive linemen Phillip Daniels and Maake Kemoeatu will miss the seasons final two games after being played on injured reserve Wednesday.
Daniels aggravated an abdomen injury against Dallas and was limited to six snaps and Kemoeatu was shut down because of a shoulder injury that had bothered him the entire year.
Linebacker Rob Jackson was elevated from the practice squad and defensive lineman Darrion Scott who was in camp with the Redskins will take the two spots on the roster.
Daniels played in 14 games (averaging 17.1 snaps), totaling 30 tackles. This is the third time in his seven years with Washington that hes ended the season on injured reserve.
Kemoeatu signed with the Redskins after missing all of last year with an Achilles tendon injury. He was credited with 40 tackles and averaged 25.4 snaps per game.
Kemoeatu will have his labrum injury examined Monday to determine if he needs surgery.
It was very frustrating to miss a whole year of football and to rehab and get back in shape and before you know it, the season starts and you think youre in shape and have another injury, he said.
Kemoeatu said his shoulder was running at about 50 percent and he wore a brace during most of the games.
I was a step or two behind and I pushed myself to catch up and eventually, you hit a wall, he said.
Scott was a part of the Redskins final preseason roster cuts and Jackson spent the first 15 weeks on the practice squad.
Im really excited, Jackson said. But at the same time, I cant allow myself to get worked up and have mental errors. Im kind of like, Ive been here before and Ive played some games.
A seventh-round pick in 2008, Jackson played three games that season and five games last year for the Redskins.
Four players sat out practice Wednesday: Linebacker Brian Orakpo (groinhamstring), defensive end Kedric Golston (groin), safety Reed Doughty (concussion) and safety Kareem Moore (knee). Linebacker Lorenzo Alexander (hamstring), receiver Brandon Banks (knee), nose tackle Anthony Bryant (back) and linebacker Rocky McIntosh (hamstring) were limited in their work.
Coach Mike Shanahan said Golston is a long shot to play Sunday against Jacksonville and Doughty has not been cleared by doctors although he did have a helmet on during the open portion of practice.
The Redskins are down to no healthy safeties because Macho Harris is also listed on the injury report. Shanahan said a roster move would be made if any Doughty was unavailable.
Grossman on Spurrier
The last time Jacksonville hosted the Redskins in the regular season (2002), Steve Spurrier was Washingtons coach. He was at Florida when Rex Grossman starred for the Gators.
In three years as the Gators starter, Grossman went 23-4 with 9,164 passing yards, 77 touchdowns and 17 300-yard games.
I owe everything I have as a quarterback to Coach Spurrier, Grossman said. Coming out of high school, I felt like I was a good player. But I was just looking for an open guy and throwing it to him. But Spurrier took me from that to understanding coverages and how to manipulate coverages with routes, how to look guys off all sorts of things that most quarterbacks dont get to be coached as an 18-, 19-year old. It just helped me speed up the learning process.
Defensive lineman Rashaad Duncan and tackle Xavier Fulton were added to the practice squad. Teams traditionally add young players to the practice squad late in the year in order to sign them to futures contracts in early January.
Jacksonville has been installed as a seven-point favorite over the Redskins.
