Through seven games Mathieu Perreault now has many goals as Alex Ovechkin.

And that could keep his hair away from Bruce Boudreaus scissors.

Centering a fourth line with Jeff Halpern and Matt Hendricks, Perreault scored a pair of goals in the Capitals 7-1 win over the Red Wings Saturday night, giving him three goals in just five games.

Hes like that little Energizer bunny, Boudreau said. He keeps going.

Perreaults 14 shifts were the fewest on the team but he made the most of his 10:20 of ice time, scoring a pair of even-strength goals.

With four balanced lines capable of scoring as well as defending, the Caps have become one of the NHLs most difficult teams to match up against for opposing coaches.

It shows that we have a lot of depth and everyone can score every night, Perreault said. It makes our team tough to play against because our four lines are ready to go every night.

Despite pleas by Boudreau, Perreault has refused to cut his hair, saying hes fallen into scoring slumps every time hes clipped his long, black locks. At the rate hes scoring, Perreault might look like Rapunzel by seasons end.

No, Boudreau insisted. Hes getting it cut.
