Former Redskins right guard Randy Thomas got his start in the NFL with the New York Jets when he was drafted by Bill Parcells.Thomas later signed with the Redskins as a free agent and performed well before injuries resulted in his release last March.Parcells called Thomas last week and hours later, he was on the Miami Dolphins practice field. They told me to come in and compete and earn a spot. Nothing is given, Thomas told the Palm Beach Post. Thats probably why I played 11 years. I never thought I had a spot. I always worked to get it.Thomas sold his house in northern Virginia and was at his home in Atlanta when the Dolphins called.Winter Classic Ticket Troubles?
The Capitals-Penguins New Years Day game at Heinz Field will seat 65,000 fans but the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that some of the 18,000 Penguins season-ticket holders arent happy with their seats.I expected my seats to be in the lower bowl, Carl DiGiorigo said. Instead, Im in the upper bowl, section 531, near the top of the stadium. I thought you would get rewarded for being a longtime season-ticket holder. The Penguins say the season-ticket holders were offered seats based on what they were offered by the NHL.The Penguins received 30,000 tickets from the NHL and are scattered around the stadium. The Capitals are getting 20,000 tickets from the NHL, the bulk of which are intended for the teams season-ticket holders and some are involved in a travel package to Pittsburgh.Playing The Waiting Game
Several NHL veteran free agents remain without a team just weeks before the start of training camp. One of those players is former Capitals center Brendan Morrison.Morrisons agent, Kurk Overhardt, told the Vancouver Sun that there is not a chance, Morrison will go to Europe. He has a lot of hockey left in him, Overhardt said. He doesnt need to go to Europe to play.
