Goaltender Michal Neuvirth will make his first start since the season opener tonight when the Capitals visit the Carolina Hurricanes here at RBC Center.
Right wing Troy Brouwer also skated with the team and said he's been cleared to play after sitting out two practices with an injury to his right arm.
Defenseman Mike Green, out since Oct. 22 with a sprained right ankle, skated the entire session and took several hard laps around the ice afterward but will not play tonight.
The question is, if Brouwer plays tonight, who sits? Mike Knuble was the first player off the ice today and is one of 12 forward candidates to come out.
"One is not a candidate," Boudreau said with a smile. "No. 8 is not coming out. He's playing tonight."
