The timetable for defenseman Mike Green's return will not be determined until Monday, Capitals coach Bruce Boudreau said Thursday, The Washington Post reported.

Green has missed 18 of the team's past 20 games since being hit in head by a puck against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Feb. 6. He suffered another head injury on Feb. 25 after New York Rangers center Derek Stepan struck him in the jaw.

Boudreau spoke to reporters at practice and said Green is feeling better, but it's uncertain whether he can return before the playoffs.

"In a perfect world, wed like to get him back for the last couple regular-season games, he said, according to the Post. I think this week will indicate this. By Monday, well know whether well be able to or not."

At this point, the coach doesn't want to rush his return, especially with the team's recent streak of 11 wins in 12 games.

We want him in at least three practices, good practices, before we ever put him in a game, minimum, Boudreau said. Quite frankly, I play him when head athletic trainer Greg Smith says hes OK to play. Ill be the first one to put him in.

I told him again today, I said: Mike, we just want you to get better. I want you to play, but I want you to get better. He was saying how good he felt, and I said thats a fabulous sign.
