I'm all for the modern sports media. Heck, without it, I'd have to grow up and get a real job for the first time in my adult life.

That said, I'm amazed at just how over-the-top we can be when it comes to instant analysis.

A couple of weeks ago, after the Capitals lost in 7 games to the upstart Montreal Canadiens, Alex Ovechkin was piled on by seemingly every national pundit as an overrated choker who couldn't carry Sidney Crosby's jock with a forklift. Then, Sid the Kid and his Pens went out and lost in 7 games to the Canadiens as well. Now what? Is Sidney a bum too?

To me, the whole thing is stupid. As I've said repeatedly, both players are great and I can't emphasize this enough: they are YOUNG. They're just getting started. So go ahead and rank one ahead of the other if you wish but in doing so, please have the humility and common sense enough to admit that NOTHING has been permanently decided in this rivalry. In fact, we won't really know until a decade or so from now when, hopefully, both players are winding down long successful careers.

The same goes for judging LeBron James, who last time I checked, was 25. Now, I'm no James fan but I mean that is the age when a person is finally allowed to rent a car right? So maybe we should hold off on the sweeping assessments just a bit shall we?

Thanks, I'd appreciate that.
