The legal problems of Redskins defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth continued Tuesday when he was indicted on a charge of misdemeanor sexual abuse in D.C. Superior Court.
Haynesworth is accused of fondling a waitress in early February during an incident at the W Hotel in Washington.
The U.S. Attorneys Office in Washington is handling the case. The charge carries maximum penalties of 180 days in jail and a 1,000 fine.
According to a press release, Haynesworth was with friends on Feb. 13 in a cordoned-off section of the P.O.V Lounge. At about 2 a.m., he slid a credit card down the front of the servers dress and then fondled her breast.
Since signing with the Redskins, Haynesworth has been in near-constant legal turmoil and in addition to this situation, he was also involved in a road rage incident in early February that resulted in a simple assault charge.
After the alleged incident at the W Hotel, agent Chad Speck said in an email: There seems to be no truth to these allegations and we are currently evaluating the facts and considering our own legal actions against those involved.
Haynesworth told police the waitress was upset because she was interested in him and the feeling wasn't mutual, according to TBD.com.
"I know what this is about; she is just upset that I have a white girlfriend," Haynesworth said, according to the police report."I couldn't tell you the last time I dated a black girl. She was trying to get with me."Haynesworths indictment comes on the same day Redskins owner Dan Snyder refiled his 1 million defamation lawsuit against Washington City Paper in a local court.
Haynesworth clashed most of last year with coach Mike Shanahan and was ultimately suspended for the final four games for conduct detrimental to the team.
Although the temporary rules entering this weekends draft state that no current player can be traded, once the market opens, Haynesworths latest legal problem only further diminishes his value.
