With the off-season departure of forward Nakia Sanford, the Mystics needed some help up front, and they got it as the team acquired Nicky Anosike from the Minnesota Lynx in exchange for the Mystics first round pick in the 2012 WNBA draft. We are thrilled to sign a player of Nickys caliber, said General Manager and Coach Trudi Lacey. She will be an excellent addition to our team and give us the low post presence we have been missing."
A 6-3 forwardcenter, Anosike averaged 9.2 points and 6.8 rebounds per game last season for Minnesota. Anosike was an all-star in 2009, leading the Lynx in scoring at 13.2 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 2.7 steals a game. "Nickys experience both at the collegiate and professional levels as well her skill set brings a dimension to our team that is unprecedented," Lacey said. Lacey also announced that Washington added to its training camp roster forwards Megan Frazee and Bernice Mosby. Training camp begins May 15, and the regular season starts June 4 at Connecticut.
