CSNWashington.comBoston---On the schedule it was not the perfect draw for the Wizards and it showed. Playing the second of back-to-back games against a well rested Celtics team, the Wizards could not find the energy or the answers in a 114-83 loss. After keeping pace with the Celtics in a high scoring first quarter, the Wizards paid the price for a combination of missed open looks and quick shots in the second quarter. With 5:31 left before half-time the Wizards only trailed 41-38, but the Celtics ended up outscoring the Wizards 27-16 in that pivotal second quarter. Like fans in Chicago anticipated the match-up between John Wall and the Bulls Derrick Rose, Celtics fans were hoping for a meeting between Wall and Rajon Rondo. Instead Wall missed his second consecutive game because of the sprained left foot he suffered Saturday in the game against Rose and the Bulls. With Rondo leading the way with 13 assists, amazingly two below his per-game average, the Celtics were a model of efficient basketball. On the night the Celtics 32 assists eclipsed the Wizards made field goal total by one. Paul Pierce led six Celtics in double figures with 23 points. You know we got off to a start, but they did what a veteran team is supposed to do against young team playing a back-to-back, said Wizards head coach Flip Saunders. They got physical with us from the beginning and I told our guys its like they reached right into our chests and pulled our heart out and took away our will. For the second consecutive game Nick Young came off the bench and shot at a high level and finished with a team-high 20 points. As a team the Wizards shot only 38 percent. Gilbert Arenas is still trying to get to full fitness after injuries and the impact of the two games in two nights seemed to show in his 3 of 11 shooting mark from the field. We could not establish anything at all, Saunders added. They challenged every pass and every dribble. It was like men playing against boys tonight. They just manhandled us at every spot. The game was a departure from what had been a competitive series in recent years Late last season the Wizards enjoyed an April win against the Celtics when Andray Blatche scored 31 points and only lost by three points in March in a game punctuated by a 24-point effort from Al ThorntonThe 20102011 Celtics team is probably better and deeper. Kendrick Perkins and Jermaine ONeal remain sidelined by injuries and against the Wizards Delonte West played in his first game after a 10-game suspension related to a weapons charge. West had12 points, 4 assists. The Celtics depth was on full display in the fourth quarter when they were putting the finishing touches on their clinical display. At 67 and 275 pounds Glen Davis showed guard-like skill when he was able to draw two defenders driving down the lane and then dish to 70 rookie Semih Erden for a slam dunk to make it 93-69 Celtics. The Wizards again played without Yi Jianlian who participated in pre-game warm-ups but remained sidelined with a bone bruise in his right knee. The Wizards were competitive with the Celtics on the boards where they were only out-rebounded 40-36. In the end the game did not reflect the Wizards recent improvement on defense. The Celtics shot 65 percent from the floor and had 56 points in the paint.
