Biggest surprise from last week in the ACC

Virginia must have been reading my Notes from the Newsroom article last week because they came out last Saturday against Maryland and got it done. For the first time since 2007 the Virginia Cavaliers are bowl eligible and still very much in the hunt for the Coastal Division title.

Biggest letdown from last week in the ACC

Wake Forests loss to Notre Dame. The Deacs had a chance to upset the Irish but couldnt get it done in the end.

ACC Games of the Week

Wake Forest at 9 Clemson. The Demon Deacons are easily the surprise team of the ACC this year while the Tigers are trying to rebound after their loss to Georgia Tech. Clemson will clinch the Atlantic Division with a win Saturday but on the other hand, if Wake wins, they would clinch the Atlantic Division with a win over Maryland on the 19th. Still, Death Valley is one of the toughest stadiums in the country for a visiting team.

Latest from College Park

Quarterback Danny OBrien needs 46 passing yards to become the 9th quarterback in school history to post 4,000 career passing yards.

Maryland vs. Notre Dame

The Terps visit Notre Dame this weekend at FedExField. Maryland need to snap a 5-game losing streak and will have to try and stop a dangerous combo in quarterback Tommy Rees and wide receiver Michael Floyd. Unfortunately, I dont think its going to happen.

Latest from Charlottesville

The Cavaliers ended their 13-game losing streak in the month of November last weekend with a 31-13 win over Maryland.

Duke at Virginia

Virginia hosts the Duke Blue Devils this weekend. The Wahoos have plenty of confidence coming off last weekends victory and should enjoy a hearty home crowd at Scott Stadium. They will have to deal with a dangerous Duke passing attack but I think if they stay focused theyll take one step closer to the Coastal Division title.

Latest from Blacksburg

In each of the last six meetings, the winner of Virginia Tech - Georgia Tech has gone on to represent the Coastal Division in the ACC Championship Game. That's a good sign for the Hokies.

David Wilson is known for his speed, but the runnning back showed impressive strength against the Yellow Jackets last night. He broke 16 tackles and racked up 133 yards after contact.

Biggest CAA news from last week

What have I said before? Dont go against the Towson Tigers. Last weeks showdown with Maine ended with a 40-30 Tigers victory. That win now puts Towson in a 3-way tie for first with Maine and New Hampshire

CAA game of the week

Do you have to ask? 7 New Hampshire at 12 Towson. With two games remaining in the season this is a critical matchup. The top two offensive teams in the CAA will square off at Unitas Stadium. The Tigers have the top rushing game while the Wildcats have a tremendous passing attack.
