CSNwashington.comCAPITALS PAGE CAPITALS VIDEOSince hes played only parts of two games since Feb. 12, count Mike Green among those to see how quickly he regains his rhythm if hes the Capitals Game 1 lineup Wednesday against the New York Rangers.
"Dont know; Ive never been out this long," he said after he participated in an hour-long, contact practice Monday. "Well see, but I feel great on the ice, am ready to go and its just a matter of getting my feel for the game."Coach Bruce Boudreau said Green is "good. Hes ready for Game 1." If Green plays, hell likely be paired on the second unit with Jeff Schultz and have his minutes monitored."No idea how ice time," he said. "Hopefully they ease me in there."Green hasnt been a lineup regular since he missed two weeks after taking a puck to the head and he lasted only a few minutes before the Rangers Derek Stepan hit him in the corner. All told, Green was limited to 49 games, eight goals and 16 assists."I think it would be huge," John Carlson said of Greens return. "Hes definitely an unbelievable defenseman and weve missed him a lot. Its good to have him back."The urgency of getting a healthy Green back is because Dennis Wideman is out for at least the Rangers series with a leg injury.Greens biggest role initially could come on the power play"Mike looks like he hasnt lost much of his stride out there," Schultz said. "Im sure once he gets into the flow of the game, things will come back to him naturally."Contact Ryan at
