Just before Sunday's game with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Ravens put rookie safety Christian Thompson on injured reserve to end his season.

He was replaced by safety Anthony Levine, who was promoted from the practice squad. Levine has yet to play in an NFL game. He spent most of 2010-11 on the Green Bay Packers’ practice unit.

The Ravens' secondary is thinning with the loss of Jimmy Smith to abdominal surgery. He had replaced Lardarius Webb in the starting lineup after he had a season-ending knee injury.

Thompson made appearances in seven games on special teams.

The Ravens signed free agent cornerback Chris Johnson earlier this week.

This could mean that rookie cornerback Asa Jackson, who hasn't been activated on game day this season, will dress Sunday.
