The Hot Stove League isn’t full on yet — we need to get through the World Series first — but it’s certainly starting to warm up. Here are some American League East rumors floating around:

*The Blue Jays want to deal shortstop Yunel Escobar,’s Jon Heyman said via Twitter, and may find takers because of thin offerings at the position. However, Escobar’s reputation could make a trade difficult. Escobar was suspended by the team in September for wearing eyeblack tape that contained a gay slur in Spanish.

*Richard Griffin of the Toronto Star wrote that part of the reason the Blue Jays were willing to let manager John Farrell go to the Red Sox was that the Jays showed a lack of discipline that didn’t reflect well on Farrell’s leadership. Griffin cited flashes of temper by Brett Lawrie and Jose Bautista toward umpires, the Escobar incident and frequent lapses in fundamentals on the field.

“Without the Red Sox presence in this equation,” Griffin wrote, “Farrell would likely have been asked to work on the final year of his three-year deal to show that corrections had been made in the clubhouse and on the field.”

*The Mets may be considering trading first baseman Ike Davis, and calls the Rays a possible fit, with the Mets possibly interested in some of Tampa Bay’s abundant pitching. Davis batted only .227 this season, but his 32 homers would be attractive to a Rays team that often was anemic on offense.
