In less than three months, the Orioles will begin their exhibition season. On Feb. 23, they’ll open play with a game in Sarasota, Fla. against the Minnesota Twins and conclude their exhibition schedule on Mar. 30 with a game against the New York Mets. They open the regular season on Apr. 2 at Tampa Bay.

Because of the World Baseball Classic, spring training will begin earlier and last longer than usual. On Mar. 6, the Orioles will play Brazil’s WBC team in Sarasota.

The Orioles will play 18 home games, 17 of them against major league opponents. They’ll play 16 road games. There are two split-squad dates: February 27 and March 17.

Eight different opponents will play the Orioles. They’ll play the Pittsburgh Pirates seven times. Pittsburgh trains in nearby Bradenton, Fla. The Orioles will also play Boston, Toronto and Minnesota five times each. Tampa Bay and Baltimore play four times while the Yankees and Phillies face the Orioles three times.

The Orioles haven’t faced the Mets in spring training since the team left Fort Lauderdale in 2009. It’s also the first time the Orioles haven’t played against the Tigers during the spring since moving to Sarasota.

There are four home night games and three road games at night.

Currently, there are four off-days, but intrasquad games as well as games against local colleges could be scheduled on some of them.

Pitchers and catchers report to Sarasota on Feb. 12. Position players report on Feb. 15.
