In less than four months, the Orioles will report to spring training. They probably won’t release their spring training schedule for several weeks, but clever fans can start their preparation already.

The Philadelphia Phillies released their spring training schedule on Monday, the first team to do so, and it includes three games with the Orioles.

On March 3, the Phillies play the Orioles at Sarasota, Fla. They return on March 23. The Orioles visit the Phillies at Clearwater, Fla. on March 17.

Spring training will be a little longer than usual in 2013. Teams will report earlier; the Orioles may report as early as Feb. 10. The Phillies’ pitchers and catcher report on Feb. 12, their full squad three days later, and their first game is on Feb. 23.

The Orioles’ schedule isn’t likely to differ radically.

Because of the World Baseball Classic, which runs from March 2 to 19, teams have to report a few days early. There will also be a few days off during spring training. Most years, the Orioles have only one scheduled day off.

-Onetime Orioles outfielder Dave May died on Saturday in Bear, Del. at 68. May, who played the first four of his 12 years in the majors with the Orioles, played in two games of the 1969 World Series. He played six seasons with Milwaukee and also played for Pittsburgh, Atlanta and Texas.

May was the father of Derrick May, who played the final 26 games of his major league career with the Orioles in 1999. The Mays are one of six fathers and sons to play with the Orioles.
