With the World Series over, teams can make major announcements. There are still three teams without managers: Colorado, Miami and Toronto.
None seems close to making a choice, and Orioles third base coach DeMarlo Hale remains in play for both the Marlins and Blue Jays. Hale is reportedly one of four candidates in Toronto along with Dodgers third base coach Tim Wallach, Indians bench coach Sandy Alomar and Blue Jays bench coach Don Wakamatsu.
Hale and Wakamatsu both coached under Buck Showalter in Texas.
Brian Butterfield, who was a Showalter aide in New York and Arizona, joined John Farrell in Boston on Tuesday. Butterfield will be the Red Sox’s third base coach.
He joins Torey Lovullo, who also moved from Toronto to be Farrell’s bench coach.
Rick Peterson, the Orioles’ Director of Pitching Development, is scheduled to be interviewed for a position as Farrell’s pitching coach.
Hale's candidacy in Miami and Toronto is the reason the Orioles' coaching staff for 2013 has yet to be announced.
