Washington Mystics starting center Kia Vaughn has been suspended one game without pay, the WNBA announced on Monday.
The specific incident, an elbow to the head of the Connecticut Sun’s Chiney Ogwumike, took place during the third quarter of Washington's double-overtime loss on Sunday.
The incident was upgraded to a Flagrant Foul Penalty Two upon league office review, Senior Director for WNBA Basketball Operations Todd DeMoss announced.
Washington's leading rebounder, Vaughn will serve her suspension on Wednesday when the Mystics host the Chicago Sky.
The 6-foot-4 center, who has started all 31 games this season, averages 9.2 points and 6.4 rebounds.
Three games remain in Washington's regular season. The Mystics (15-16) are second in the Eastern Conference, one game ahead of the Sky and Indiana Fever.
