Comcast SportsNet has learned that the future of the AT+T National tournament at Congressional Country Club will be determined by early April.

In a special meeting held last night at Congressional, the board of governors presented a proposal to the membership that would bring the tournament back to Bethesda in 2016, 2018 and 2020.

If the proposal is approved by a majority vote, the tournament would be played elsewhere in 2015, 2017 and 2019. This could mean another DC area course, or possibly a course in Philadelphia, would host the tournament the other years.

If the proposal is voted down, this would be the final year of the tournament at Congressional. Members have until March 31 to vote on the proposal. Results of the vote are expected to be known in early April.

"We worked with the board and membership at Congressional to find a contract extension that works best for the Club," said tournament director Greg McLaughlin. "If they approve the current proposal, we are evaluating a variety of local and regional alternatives for the other years."

The AT+T National is in its eighth year. The first three years (2007 to 2009) were played at Congressional then moved to Aronimink Golf Club outside Philadelphia in 2010 and 2011 and then returned to Congressional in 2012 and 2013. This year’s tournament will be played the week of June 23 at Congressional.

Tournament host Tiger Woods won the event in 2009 and 2012.
