D.C. United forward Fabián Espíndola is expected to miss six weeks with a strained medial collateral ligament in his right knee. The injury occurred during United’s 4-2 win over the Montreal Impact on June 11.
Espíndola suffered the injury just mere seconds after the opening kickoff when Impact midfielder Felipe Martins tackled him. Espíndola did not return after halftime. With seven goals and eight assists, the Argentine attacker has been involved in more goals than any player in Major League Soccer this season.
The black and red are currently in first place in the Eastern Conference (7-4-4, 25 points) and will return to MLS regular season play following the league’s World Cup Break.
