In the heat of mid-July, D.C. United will welcome Club Deportivo Guadalajara S.A. de C.V., also known as Chivas Guadalajara, to RFK Stadium for a friendly match. The move expands United's reach beyond the boundaries of the United States to face some of the best competition from south of the border.

Club Deportivo Guadalajara and D.C. United are among the most storied clubs in North America, and we’re looking forward to participating in what’s sure to be a competitive match against Chivas,” D.C United Chief Operating Officer Michael Williamson said in a release. “An integral component of our “Summer of Soccer,” this game will provide our fan base yet another opportunity to watch the Black-and-Red take on a world-renowned team.”

Having cemented itself as one of the major powers of Mexico’s Primera División, Chivas has won 11 division titles and two Copa México championships since it was founded in 1906. The team's matchup with United will mark its first trip to the U.S. since October 2011, when it played Sporting Kansas City to a 2-2 tie in Missouri.
