Glen Rice Jr. is back with the Wizards. Washington announced on Saturday the recall of the rookie guard from the Iowa Energy of the NBA Development League. Rice will be with the team for Saturday's home matchup versus the Chicago Bulls.
"It's time get him back up here," Wizards coach Randy Wittman said pregame before Washington hosts the Chicago Bulls.
Over his two stints with Iowa, Rice averaged 17.2, 6.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.7 steals and 28 minutes in 19 games.
"He was down there for a stint of games. Get him back with the team, mainly," Wittman said.
With the Wizards, Rice appeared in 11 games including one start, averaging 2.9 points.
This move doesn't mean Wittman suddenly plans on shaking up the rotation. Rice is far more likely to join fellow rookie Otto Porter on the Wizards bench than John Wall on the court. Bradley Beal gobbles up most of the wing guard minutes, followed by Martell Webster. Andre Miller picks up the other backup minutes in the backcourt while Garrett Temple occasionally enters for defensive purposes.
However the playoffs are approaching, which means an all hands on deck situation plus an opportunity for the rookie to be around a playoff atmosphere.
