The official NBA championship odds are out and to nobody's surprise, the Wizards are not among the favorites.
Perhaps a touch disconcerting for a team talking about a postseason berth after four straight trips to the lottery, only the Charlotte Bobcats face longer odds than Washington according to those online gaming types.
ProBasketballTalk.com listed the odds for every team, courtesy of Bovada, and Washington comes in at 200-1, tied with Cleveland, Detroit, Sacramento and Toronto. One season after setting the NBA record for lowest winning percentage, Charlotte pulls up the rear at 500-1.
In terms of making the playoffs, 10 other Eastern Conference teams rank ahead of the Wizards and others in the 200-1 quintet including Milwaukee (125-1) and Orlando (150-1).
Also not shocking, Miami is the NBA title favorite followed by the Los Angeles Lakers and Oklahoma City.
Though I suspect the initial odds would remain the same, not having John Wall in the lineup for the first month of the season couldn't have helped the cause - the cause meaning basic odds, not actually putting Washington in any true title contention this year. With good health going forward, progress from the team's array of kids and solid team on-court chemistry, it's fair to project the Wizards in the postseason mix.
Since we're still in the early stages of training camp and preseason, a time for positive thinking, let's not imagine a world where those things do not occur. Where's the fun in that.
