Wall: "I can finally prove what I'm capable of"
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- There's no need for Marcin Gortat to manufacture motivation for tonight's season opener at The Palace (CSN, 7:30 p.m. ET).
Yes, the Wizards' center, acquired in a trade over the weekend from the Phoenix Suns, wants to make a good impression for the first time wearing the uniform.
Yes, it's the season-opener, so starting well is always important.
But Gortat, who will wear No. 4 instead of his preferred No. 13 -- Kevin Seraphin has that one -- has another reason.
When Gortat last walked into this building on Nov. 28 last season, he'd only made on field goal. The Suns were beaten like a dirty rug, 117-77.
"I would like to take revenge on that team," said Gortat, who is expected to start next to Nene in the low post. "Last year we came here with Phoenix, and if I'm not mistaken we had the second- or third-worst loss in the franchise history by 40 points. They totally dominated us and I'm hoping I will pay them back right now.
"This is one game, but we came here to win the game. My presence on this team is hopefully going to help them on the glass, energy-wise, and hopefully I'll bring some toughness. I hope I'm going to bring the winning spirit."
