Totally makes sense that the next edition of John Wall's basketball shoes from Adidas would have a D.C. theme. Perhaps something involving the White House or monuments or, as the Verizon Center MC announces at some point each game, about this being "the most powerful city in the world." In this case an RGIII homage isn't appropriate, but only in this case, obviously.

No, instead the designers went with a colorful angle, one that's about to spring up on this area very soon assuming the roller coaster ride known as Mother Nature hasn't messed with years of tradition: Cherry Blossoms. This, from the internet:

So, yes, pink and apparently, crazy.

More details from

"Next Thursday officially marks the arrival of spring, and adidas is celebrating with the release of the Florist City Collection for two of basketball's fastest rising stars — point guards Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers and John Wall of the Washington Wizards.

"Lillard's 'Rose City' Crazy 1 pays homage to Portland's famous rose gardens and the Rose Festival with a rose print on the upper and laces, along with green detailing mirrored after the flower's stern.

"Dropping in time for fans to lace-up for this year's Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington DC, Wall's Crazy 1 is decked out in grey to represent the capital's stone monuments. Cherry Blossom detailing can be found on the laces and outsole."

Ah, so a nod to the "grey" monuments is involved. Good. Didn't want the World War II Memorial getting up in arms about the Cherry Blossoms hogging all the basketball shoe attention.

Previously Wall and others wore these during NBA All-Star weekend. Nearly a year ago Wall, Lillard and Jrue Holiday told the basketball shoe buying world that "Quick Ain't Fair." Now, it's all about pink.

Wall and the Wizards play in Portland against Lillard and the Trailblazers on March 20. We already know the All-Star point guards will put on a flashy show. Perhaps they will put on a colorful one as well.
