Wizards like how Gortat will fit into lineup

Nene really likes what he sees with the revamped frontline.

"You decide. You let me score, you let him score," he said, referring to newly acquired center Marcin Gortat. "Double-team? … That's not going to happen anymore. Now we have Gortat. We have Al Harrington. Book (Trevor Booker) is doing really good things. In the last game he killed in the low post.… All these things are a big (plus) for us."

Coach Randy Wittman likes having options. That's something he lacked early in the offseason when he kicked around the possibility of playing Jan Vesely at center.

"It gives us more flexibility. Whether it be foul trouble, we got a little bit thin right away. Gives us a lot of flexibility that with Mek being down we didn't have," Wittman said, alluding to the trade over the weekend that sent Emeka Okafor (herniated disk) to the Phoenix Suns for Gortat. "We're really, in our eyes, adding an extra player. We're not trading a player for a player with Emeka not being on the floor yet. That's also the beauty about the situation. We had no idea when, or if, Emeka was going to be back. This gives us a free body we didn't have."

Nene, who was the first Wizards player to contact Gortat upon the trade and has driven him around D.C. since he doesn't have transportation yet, appeared to be headed towards making a bold prediction for a team that just won 29 games last season and hasn't qualified for the playoffs in five years. But he caught himself and stopped short.

"We're going to make noise. I don't like to talk much noise because we don't know how we going to be," he said. "Let people say whatever they want outside. … We know. We believe in each other. We know we can do good things right now."
