Wizards vs. Nets

at Verizon Center

TV: Tonight, NBATV, 7 ET. Radio: 106.7 FM

Projected starting lineups: Wizards –- PG John Wall, SG Bradley Beal, SF Martell Webster, PF Nene, C Kevin Seraphin. Nets –- PG Shaun Livingston, SG Joe Johnson, SF Paul Pierce, PF Kevin Garnett, C Brook Lopez.

What to look for: 1). Will Jan Vesely or Kevin Seraphin prove to be viable starting centers? Coach Randy Wittman will do a lot of experimenting with his lineups, trying to find a replacement for Emeka Okafor; 2) Small ball. Wittman will use a lot of it, particularly with G Eric Maynor and his SFs Webster and Trevor Ariza; 3). Veterans such as Pierce, Garnett, Nene and Johnson will play minimal time, if at all. These games are for unsigned free agents such as SF Josh Childress and PF Pops Mensah-Bonsu for the Wizards and SF Gary Forbes and G Marko Jaric for the Nets.

X-factors: The Nets won't have their usual starting PG Deron Williams (ankle) or SG Jason Terry (knee). Williams will miss the first two preseason games. Terry recently returned to practice and appears further away. ... The Wizards won't have SF Otto Porter (hip flexor), PF Trevor Booker (knee), SF Chris Singleton (foot/toe) or Okafor (herniated disk).

He said it: "He's a hard working guy. He's improved that jump shot. He will be a better jump shooter than he was last year." -- Maynor on Wall.

Around the bend: The Wizards leave Tuesday for Rio de Janeiro, where they'll play their second exhibition game Saturday. Nene is from Brazil (NBATV, 5 p.m. ET).
