Cartier Martin knows his role on the this current Wizards team. The veteran shooter needs to be ready to come off the bench because he could be called on by coach Randy Wittman at any time.

After not playing against Cleveland in the season opener, Wittman sent Martin in to the Boston game midway through the fourth quarter and Martin immediately sparked the Wizards. Martin hit a three-pointer to cut the Celtics’ lead to 82-77 and then, moments later, he stole a pass that led to an easy breakaway layup to make it 82-79 with just over 4 minutes left in the game.

With production like this, Martin could crack the rotation but right now he's on the outside looking in.

"We're stacked at every position," Martin said. "So there are a lot of adjustments being made."

Martin played for most of the 2010-11 season with the Wizards before he was cut, and last season he was signed on by Washington for the final month of the year.

"We've had a familiarity with Cartier," Wittman said. "He's comfortable, obviously, because he was with us at the end of last year and he's doing a nice job."

In 17 games last season, Martin averaged 9 points off the bench and hit 29 3-pointers at a 38 percent clip.

"It's just about being a professional about the whole situation,” Martin said. "I'm just waiting for my opportunity and whenever he calls me I'll be ready."

Against Boston, Martin was.
