Recap from day 1 at Wizards training camp

FAIRFAX, Va. -- Otto Porter, the Wizards' top draft pick, was restricted at the first day of training camp because of a right hip flexor injury.

The small forward rode an exercise bike but didn't do any drills with his teammates at the Patriot Center on the campus of George Mason University. The injury occurred a few weeks ago when he fell during a scrimmage.

"Today he was limited," Wizards coach Randy Wittman said. "He's got a hip flexor thing that is bothering him. It's been bothering him now for a couple weeks. He's got to get himself going. He's missing a lot of valuable time now here in terms of what he's  been limited to. We've got to be smart with him. We need to get him healthy and as soon as we can."

Porter went down during mini-camp in July when he tweaked his right hamstring. When the Wizards went to Las Vegas summer league, Porter played less than two games because he aggravated it again. He returned to training in August

When asked if the hip flexor was related to the hamstring since both are on the same leg, he wasn't sure.

"It occurred recently, just playing something twist(ed)," Porter said. "But nothing major though. We'll take it day by day."

The Wizards are already without Emeka Okafor (herniated disk) and Chris Singleton (foot/toe surgery). Trevor Booker, who has been nagged by injuries since last season, was limited Saturday.
