Beal taking it slow as he works to come back

Both teams are in a funk. Atlanta has dropped six of its last nine games and Washington hasn't won at Atlanta since 2008.

TV: CSN+, 7:30 p.m. ET at Phillips Arena. Radio: 1500 AM.

Last game: Wizards (9-11) lost to the Denver Nuggets at home, 75-74 on Monday, their second defeat in a row; Hawks (11-11) lost to the Oklahoma City 101-92 at home on Tuesday.

Last meeting: Wizards beat the Hawks at Verizon Center on Nov. 30, 108-101.

Projected starting lineups: Wizards –- PG John Wall, SG Trevor Ariza, SF Martell Webster, PF Trevor Booker, C Marcin Gortat. Hawks –- PG Jeff Teague, SG Kyle Korver, SF DeMarre Carroll, PF Paul Millsap, C Al Horford.

[ICYMI: John Wall ranked 4th among guards in East All-Star voting]

Entry passes: 1). Korver didn't play in the first meeting and his presence -- and long-range shooting ability -- certainly will force the Wizards to adjust their defense 2). Millsap hit 4 of 5 three-pointers to keep Atlanta in the first game. 3). Wall dominated his matchup with Teague, with 26 points and 12 assists as Teague shot just 5-for-18. 4). The reserves, the worst in the NBA at scoring, only contributed 14 points for the Wizards.

X-factors: Nene (right foot) has been dealing with soreness and missed the last game. He practiced Thursday, but likely will be a game-time decision unless he has a setback at Friday morning's shootaround. ... Webster will be playing with his left ankle taped after spraining it last week. He thinks it might limit him and he has to get used to it. ... Otto Porter will come off the bench and get time for the third consecutive game, and hope to end his scoring drought.

He said it: “We have to play it day by day. If I continue to feel good, when the doc presses on it and there's no feeling at all that's when he'll give me a go. Until then it's day by day." -- Bradley Beal on when he anticipates returning from a stress reaction to his right fibula

Around the bend: The Wizards return to D.C. immediately after the game to play the Los Angeles Clippers at Verizon Center on Saturday CSN, 7).
