John Wall finding comfort in jumpshot

Wizards vs. Cavaliers

at Quicken Loans Arena

TV: CSN+, 7 p.m. ET

Season series: Cavs lead 2-0.

Last meeting: The Wizards lost 87-84 on Dec. 26 in Washington. Cavs PG Kyrie Irving led all scorers with 26 points, eight assists and six rebounds and PF Tristan Thompson had 15 points and 12 rebounds in the victory.  Trevor Ariza and A.J. Price didn't play because of injuries. Rookie Bradley Beal only had two points and was 0-for-5 shooting. The Wizards, however, didn't have PG John Wall. Instead, they started Shelvin Mack, who no longer is on the roster, in that game.

Previous game: Wizards (19-41) beat the Charlotte Bobcats 104-87 at home Saturday behind a team-high 26 points from Ariza. Cavs (21-42) lost to the Toronto Raptors 100-96 on Sunday.

Projected starting lineups: Wizards –- PG John Wall, SG Garrett Temple, SF Martell Webster, PF Nene, C Emeka Okafor. Cavs –- PG Shaun Livingston, SG Dion Waiters, SF Alonzo Gee, PF Thompson, C Tyler Zeller.

Matchup watch: Temple vs. Waiters. With Irving out because of a left shoulder sprain, the scoring burden will fall more on the shoulders of Waiters, a rookie who averages 14.7 points per game. Temple will start in place of Beal (left ankle sprain), who has yet to practice since he was injured in a game March 3.

Trending upward: Backup PG A.J. Price is back in the flow with nine points and six assists in just 20 minutes vs. Charlotte. The Wizards shot 50% or better from the field, and three-point range, and the bench contributed 44 points.

Trending downward: Fs Chris Singleton and Jan Vesely combined for just two minutes of play in the 17-point blowout. But Nene continued to have trouble with turnovers as he led with four.

He said it: “It was a situation where we wanted to go in a different direction. I love Shaun. I'm always rooting for a guy like Shaun. Shaun went through one of the more horrific injuries that we've seen in the NBA and to fight his way back to where he's back in the league, you always root for guys like that.” – Wizards coach Randy Wittman on Livingston, who was cut by the Wizards in December.

Looking ahead: Wednesday vs. Milwaukee Bucks, 7; Friday vs. New Orleans Hornets, 7; Saturday vs. Phoenix Suns, 7. All on CSN.
