The Nationals activated infielder Asdrubal Cabrera to their 25-man roster on Friday, one day after the two-time All-Star came over in a deadline day trade with the Cleveland Indians.
Washington sent struggling relief pitcher Aaron Barrett down to Triple-A Syracuse as the corresponding move.
Sending Barrett down allows right-hander Blake Treinen to remain with the team after coming up from Syracuse the day before. It also gives Barrett some time to work on his mechanics after seeing his ERA rise from 1.96 to 3.21 over his last nine outings.
Cabrera is set to hit seventh in the Nationals' lineup on Friday as the Nats battle the Philadelphia Phillies in the second game of their four-game series. The career .270 hitter is starting at second base.
