Baseball players are known for weird superstitions, and Ian Desmond achieved a new level on Tuesday night.
In a first inning at-bat, Desmond was seen sporting a goatee, like he has for much of the season.
When Desmond returned to the plate in the third inning, the goatee was gone.
Perhaps the impromptu shave was understandable, as Desmond's first inning at-bat ended with the shortstop grounding into a double play.
It didn't get better immediately after the shave either. Desmond flied out to right field in the third, and grounded out to shortstop in the sixth.
By the eighth inning, maybe Desmond got used to the clean face. He slapped a single to right field.
