Despite a spirited campaign on Twitter and a creative effort on YouTube, Bryce Harper did not win the contest to be on the cover of MLB ’13 The Show.

The Nationals outfielder fell short and didn’t even get that close, he finished fifth out of the seven finalists with 42,542 votes. Andrew McCutchen won the honor with 108,148 votes.

Fans voted for the players on MLB.com and through Twitter with different hashtags signifying each candidate. Harper’s was #MLB13Harper and he was Tweeting frequently over the last few days trying to get the cover.

Here is one of his Tweets from Friday:

Want to put me and my infamous eye black on the cover of @mlbtheshow? Vote by tweeting #MLB13Harper. youtu.be/5Ynje3LxEEM

Harper had lots of support from celebrities who Tweeted the hashtag, among those include Johnny Manziel, Bubba Watson, Alfred Morris, Forrest Griffin, Bradley Beal, and John Carlson. He even Tweeted at Katy Perry trying to get a shoutout, but she did not oblige.

Harper missed out on the cover this year, but he will likely have another chance. He is only 20 years old and clearly wants to be on it. For now, all he can do is be graceful in losing.

Congrats to Cutch for winning the cover! The Pirate fans worked hard all week and he deserves it for the way he plays! #MLB13Cutch #beast
