With the Braves moving into their new stadium in Cobb County in 2017, one man wants to keep baseball within the confines of Turner Field. His name is Mike McDonald and, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, he's got a pretty specific plan.
McDonald, a longtime advertising executive in Atlanta, wants to attract an American League team to move into Turner Field once the Braves move out. He even has a name for them: the Atlanta Surge. Apparently it's a play off the city's motto 'Resurgens.' It's Latin for 'rising again.'
McDonald even mentions the Tampa Bay Rays as a potential team that could move. He says he wrote them a letter recently to propose the idea, but they have yet to respond.
The movement's slogan would be 'Let's Turner Lemon into Lemonade.' That sounds like an ad executive, all right.
The plan McDonald has laid out is obviously unlikely. If a MLB franchise were to move there are several other cities that would be better candidates for a baseball team. You would have to think the city of Montreal's quest for a team has more legitimacy than this. Still, it's a creative idea.
