Marcus Johansson injured on high hit from Kris Letang

As if the first two games of the Capitals vs. penguins playoff series had not yielded a bevy of injuries, fines and suspensions, it didn't take long for Game 3 to pile on.

Late in the first period while attempting to cash-in on a broken play, Marcus Johansson was on the receiving end of a high — and dangerous — hit from Pittsburgh's Kris Letang.

The hit was not only late, but high as well. Lentag left the ice — intentional or not — and drilled Johansson in the head with his shoulder.

Johansson was ushered off the ice and into the locker room following tyhe hit. It was just the latest in an awful first period for the Capitals. Despite outshooting the Penguins and controling the puck for a majority of the time, the Capitals wound up down 2-0 after a pair of wacky, bouncing goals slipped passed Braden Holtby.

Letang was sent to the penalty box was not given a five-minute game major, but it is more than likely that the NHL will review the injury. Brooks Orpik was suspended three games for his hit on Olli Maatta in Game 2.
