- NEW ORLEANS - The journey to this Super Bowl wound through bounties and replacement refs, eventually bringing the big game back to the Big Easy - with a replacement quarterback, a sibling rivalry and a grand exit for one of the NFL's greatest players, clouded by the obscure healing powers of deer-antler spray.

- NEW ORLEANS - Adrian Peterson and Peyton Manning are the favorites for The Associated Press' MVP award, one of the seven AP awards to be announced during a prime-time special, ``NFL Honors.''

- NEW ORLEANS - Former 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo Jr. and late Browns-turned-Ravens owner Art Modell are among the 15 finalists for the Hall of Fame. Michael Strahan, Jonathan Ogden, Jerome Bettis, Cris Carter, Tim Brown, Andre Reed and Charles Haley also are among the finalists.

- BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - No. 1 Michigan and No. 3 Indiana play a prime-time game. The Hoosiers will try to beat the nation's top-ranked team at home for the second time in 14 months and regain the No. 1 spot they held until mid-December. Michigan looks to stay atop the Big Ten standings.

- SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Phil Mickelson takes a four-stroke lead into the third round of the Phoenix Open, with more than 200,000 fans expected to pack TPC Scottsdale.

- SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Sharks go for their franchise-record eighth straight win to open the season when they wrap up a six-game homestand against the Nashville Predators.

- STILLWATER, Okla. - Top-ranked Baylor (19-1, 9-0 Big 12) tries to extend the nation's longest winning streak to 18 games when it visits No. 19 Oklahoma State (15-4, 4-4). The Bears have won their last 31 games against Big 12 competition.
