- KANSAS CITY, Mo. - One day after teammate Jovan Belcher fatally shot his girlfriend and then committed suicide in front of his general manager and coach, the Kansas City Chiefs take the field at Arrowhead Stadium for a game against the Carolina Panthers under almost surreal circumstances

- On Sunday night, it becomes official: No. 1 Notre Dame against No. 2 Alabama for the BCS national championship in a matchup of two storied programs.

- BALTIMORE - The Baltimore Ravens can clinch a fifth straight trip to the playoffs by defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers, who can enhance their own postseason chances by pulling off an upset against their bitter rivals

- MIAMI - The New England Patriots can clinch their fourth consecutive AFC East title with a victory Sunday over the Miami Dolphins, who are trying to stay in contention for a wild-card berth

- NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Houston Texans can clinch a second straight playoff berth and a franchise-record 11th victory this season along with their first season sweep of Tennessee.

- THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Graeme McDowell has a two-shot lead over Keegan Bradley going into the final round of the World Challenge. Tournament host Tiger Woods was five shots behind.

- LOS ANGELES - Dwight Howard faces his former team for the first time when Orlando visits the Los Angeles Lakers, who acquired the star center from the Magic in August.

- PASADENA, Calif. -The matchup is set after Wisconsin emerged from the troubled Big Ten to earn the right to face Stanford in the Rose Bowl.

- SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - The Fiesta Bowl landed a marquee matchup last season when Oklahoma State played Stanford. The big bowl in the desert could make it two straight when the BCS bowls are announced Sunday night.

- BEAVER CREEK, Colo. - Ted Ligety will try to win his second World Cup giant slalom race in a row Sunday at Beaver Creek

- RALEIGH, N.C. - North Carolina State is looking to new coach Dave Doeren to put a spark in a football program that is struggling to make a serious push toward the Atlantic Coast Conference championship.

- STAMFORD, Conn. - Before he heads to the winter meetings this week in Nashville, and perhaps looks for a solid outfield bat, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman will scale a building here in Stamford, Conn., with Santa Claus, all in the name of charity.
