NEW YORK (AP) Comments on the Detroit Lions by the AP Pro32 panel (ranking in parentheses):
DETROIT LIONS (21)
Chris Berman (ESPN, 16) - Played tough but shot themselves in foot ... again.
Clifton Brown (Sporting News, 20) - A disappointment. Matthew Stafford-Calvin Johnson combo just isn't as potent.
Cris Collinsworth (NBC Sports, 26)
Rich Gannon (CBS Sports/SiriusXM NFL Radio, 20) - Struggling right now in too many areas to win consistently.
Bob Glauber (Newsday, 19) - Problems at running back came back to haunt Detroit against the Bears, as a huge goal-line fumble by Joique Bell turns what could have been a momentum-swinging touchdown into a game-changing blunder.
Rick Gosselin (Dallas Morning News, 26) - When Matthew Stafford struggles, the Lions struggle. He hasn't thrown more than one TD pass in any of his six games thus far.
Clark Judge (CBSSports.com, 23) - One of these days the Lions will figure out it's OK to score in the first half, too. They better figure it out soon; otherwise we're looking at another lost season.
Ira Kaufman (Tampa Tribune, 18) - The Tigers are going to the World Series. Their sloppy Motown neighbors appear to be going nowhere.
Pat Kirwan (SiriusXM NFL Radio/CBSSports.com, 15) - The offense isn't producing like it did last year, but this a very tough team with a front four that is starting to come alive.
John Lynch (Fox Sports, 22) - A tough division loss to the Bears got tougher when they lost WR Nate Burleson to a broken leg.
Alex Marvez (Foxsports.com, 23) - A darkhorse preseason Super Bowl contender could very easily be 0-6 right now.
Dan Pompei (Chicago Tribune, 18) - The Lions are starting to look like underachievers, but it's still too soon to give up on them.
