NEW YORK (AP) Comments on the San Francisco 49ers by the AP Pro32 panel (ranking in parentheses):

Chris Berman (ESPN, 1) - Now that's more like it! Kaep and gown.

Clifton Brown (Sporting News, 2) - Colin Kaepernick. Talk about making a good first impression.

Rich Gannon (CBS Sports/SiriusXM NFL Radio, 6) - Too good of a team right now to be entertaining a quarterback controversy.

Bob Glauber (Newsday, 3) - You don't often see a quarterback controversy on a winning team, but the 49ers sure seem to have one. Who's it going to be, Jim Harbaugh? Colin Kaepernick or Alex Smith? Either way, looks like Kaepernick has a terrific future.

Rick Gosselin (Dallas Morning News, 3) - The NFL's best rushing attack and NFC's best defense allow a team to win regardless who's quarterbacking. The 49ers can win with either Alex Smith or Colin Kaepernick taking the snaps.

Clark Judge (CBSSports.com, 3) - Last time I checked Aldon Smith was still in the Bears' huddle.

Ira Kaufman (Tampa Tribune, 3) - Don't forget about Aldon Smith when considering Defensive Player of the Year.

Pat Kirwan (SiriusXM NFL Radio/CBSSports.com, 2) - The win over the Bears with a backup QB was all I needed to move them up to the No. 2 spot. Their passing game is really starting to come alive.

John Lynch (Fox Sports, 5) - The 49ers were extremely impressive in blowing out the Bears on Monday night, no one more so than backup QB Colin Kapernick. Is he still the backup? Aldon Smith WOW!

Alex Marvez (Foxsports.com, 4) - Let the quarterback controversy begin after backup Colin Kaepernick did a brilliant job replacing the injured Alex Smith (concussion) in Monday night's 32-7 waxing of Chicago.

Dan Pompei (Chicago Tribune, 5) - With a trip to New Orleans on a short week looming, the 49ers needed to beat the Bears, and they did.
